When it comes to driving in Arizona, maintaining proper insurance coverage is not just a legal requirement; it is an essential aspect of responsible vehicle ownership. For individuals who have had their driving privileges suspended or revoked, obtaining an SR22 insurance policy becomes necessary to reinstate their driver's license. In this blog post, we will delve into the significance of SR22 insurance in Arizona and explain how Budget Insurance, an independent insurance agency, can assist in purchasing an SR22 policy with ease and affordability.

Understanding SR22 Insurance: SR22 insurance is not a distinct type of insurance but rather a certification that verifies an individual carries the minimum required auto insurance coverage. It is typically required for individuals who have been convicted of certain driving offenses such as DUI/DWI, reckless driving, driving without insurance, or multiple traffic violations within a short period. The SR22 certificate serves as proof to the Motor Vehicle Department (MVD) that the driver maintains the necessary liability insurance coverage.

The Importance of SR22 Insurance in Arizona: In the state of Arizona, SR22 insurance is mandated for individuals who have had their driving privileges suspended or revoked due to serious traffic offenses. It demonstrates to the MVD that the driver is taking responsibility for their actions and is complying with the state's insurance requirements. Failure to maintain an SR22 policy can lead to extended periods of license suspension or even further legal consequences.

Purchasing SR22 Insurance through Budget Insurance: Budget Insurance, an independent insurance agency serving the residents of Arizona, specializes in providing affordable and reliable SR22 insurance policies. As an independent agency, Budget Insurance works with multiple insurance carriers, giving them access to a wide range of options to find the most suitable coverage and competitive rates for their clients.

Here's how the process works:

  1. Consultation and Assessment: To begin the process, interested individuals can reach out to Budget Insurance either online, over the phone, or by visiting one of their conveniently located offices. A knowledgeable insurance agent will assess the client's specific situation, driving history, and insurance needs.
  2. Policy Selection: Based on the assessment, Budget Insurance agents will search their network of insurance carriers to identify the most appropriate SR22 policy options that meet the client's requirements. They consider factors such as coverage limits, deductibles, and affordability.
  3. Customized Quotes: Once potential policy options are identified, Budget Insurance will provide the client with customized quotes. These quotes will outline the coverage details, policy terms, and associated costs, allowing the client to make an informed decision.
  4. Application and Filing: If the client chooses to proceed with a specific policy, Budget Insurance agents will assist in completing the necessary paperwork and ensure the SR22 certificate is properly filed with the DMV. They understand the importance of accuracy and timely submission to prevent any further disruptions to the client's driving privileges.
  5. Ongoing Support: Budget Insurance's commitment doesn't end with policy purchase and filing. They provide continuous support, assisting clients with any questions, policy adjustments, or changes that may arise during the policy term. Their dedicated agents prioritize client satisfaction and strive to maintain long-term relationships.

SR22 insurance may seem like a complex requirement, but with the assistance of Budget Insurance, obtaining the necessary coverage becomes a straightforward and hassle-free process. As an independent insurance agency, Budget Insurance offers personalized service, competitive rates, and access to multiple insurance carriers to meet the unique needs of their clients. By partnering with Budget Insurance, Arizona residents can reinstate their driving privileges confidently and responsibly, ensuring compliance with the state's insurance requirements.

To update you on what is happening at the Lukeville/Sonoyta border crossing for our insureds traveling to Rocky Point: Depending on the officer, Mexican authorities (Guardia Nacional) are enforcing the FMM and passport requirements, but not consistently. Some travelers have reported crossing as usual without passports, and officers simply waived them through. Others have reported obtaining FMMs at the border, with all travelers carrying passports. If travelers are transparent and declare any alcohol they’re bringing into Mexico, they are being charged a 114% tax. However, some people reported having alcohol but were waived through by officers and did not pay the tax. It appears enforcement depends on the officer, and tourists are currently taking their chances. It comes down to each traveler’s level of confidence and risk tolerance, as enforcement is not yet consistent. Our company’s recommendation is to follow the law: Process the FMM online Print the form Stop at the INM (Immigration) office at the border to get it stamped Reminder: The FMM tourist permit is only for foreign citizens, not for individuals with dual citizenship. Here is the link to obtain the FMM online (in case travelers ask where to process it before crossing the border): https://www.inm.gob.mx/fmme/publico/en/solicitud.html The INM Immigration Office is located in the Aduana building. For your reference, the Gastrak/Sanborn’s location in Lukeville and the Aduana building (just to the left after crossing the border) are highlighted. Additional reminders for this border crossing: All vehicles must have a current, original, valid registration OR the original title/notarized copy. Digital copies or images are not accepted. If the vehicle is not owned by the driver (e.g., a company vehicle, borrowed from family or friends), a notarized letter of permission from the owner is required to take the vehicle into Mexico. Border Hours: U.S. and Mexican authorities have agreed that the Lukeville–Sonoyta border crossing to Rocky Point (Puerto Peñasco) is open daily from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., with extended hours on Fridays (6 a.m. to 10 p.m.) from March 7 to October 10, 2025.
